Friday, February 21, 2009 - Beginning MySQL Database
2:00 PM at Olas Altas Bed and BreakfastThis month, we will be discussing how to create, populate, and maintain a MySQL database. This will be done from the command line. In order to "play along", you will need to have MySQL installed. To install MySQL 5 on a default ubuntu installation type the following command in a terminal window: sudo apt-get install mysql-server Towards the end of the install it will prompt you to set the root password for MySQL or you can leave it blank for none. Databases can be used to catalog recipes, books, CDs, maintenance schedules, contact lists...they are very handy. As always, we will be happy to help with installations for new users. The meeting is open to everyone. Please join us if you are a Linux enthusiast, novice, or are wondering just what in the heck is Linux and what can it do for you. All of our meetings are free to attend. There is no admission fee for meetings and no membership fee to join the group. You are responsible for your own check if you choose to order food or drink during the meeting. Look forward to seeing you there! Print this | Send this | Hits: 345 | |
